The Resort Municipality of Whistler announced in early October 2008 that the Province of British Columbia would be funding a $9.8 million highway improvement project in Whistler with upgrades between Function Junction to Village Gate Boulevard.

The upgrades begin in late October and are scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2009. It is important to note that in 2008, traffic disruption in Whistler is expected to be minimal. In the spring of 2009, however, some scheduled highway closures may be required for rock blasting and other roadwork. Highway closures will be publicized on construction signs and on the Resort Municipality of Whistler's website.
